- IP address — the network address of a device. IPv4: 192.168.0.1 (32-bit, ~4 billion addresses). IPv6: longer address, trillions of possible addresses.
- TCP — ensures data arrives complete and in order. Like sending a registered letter (confirmation required).
- DNS — the internet's phonebook. Translates "google.com" to the actual IP address 142.250.x.x. Without DNS you would need to memorise IP addresses.
- OSI model — 7-layer framework for understanding how networks communicate. Each layer has a specific job (physical, data link, network, transport, session, presentation, application).
